Why can't weeknight dinners feel like a date night?
We're all busy, but just because your busy doesn't mean you should just go through the motions, especially when it doesn't take a lot of effort to make weeknight dinners a bit more romantic. Some things are apparent, like using wine glasses, but here are seven easy tips for making weeknight dinners feel like a date night.

1. Set the table.
Don't let your China collect dust. It doesn't have to be extravagant, just spend a few minutes setting the table. In my home, we use cloth napkins. Not only do they look lovely, but it lowers our paper waste. Additionally, I like to use placemats, chargers, and maybe light a few candles.

2. Swap out basic ingredients.
A few simple swaps can make a huge difference in how you perceive your dinner. Try switching out these ingredients.
- Rainbow carrots over regular.
- Grab a variety of fingerling or purple potatoes instead of russets.
- Use fennel for onions.
- Try pretty heirloom tomatoes rather than your usual vine tomatoes.
- Finish with a pinch of smoked sea salt and fresh chopped herbs.
3. Turn on some music.
"Alexa play classical music." We often have instrumental music playing in the background to set the mood. If we are really in the mood for music, we play a record instead.
4. Make an appetizer.
Or buy one. It doesn't have to be over-the-top. Some warm, crusty bread with pesto or spreadable, whipped cheese does just fine.
5. Have a drink.
With every dinner comes a glass of champagne, although any cocktail will do. Don't drink? Pour yourself some lemon water in a wine glass -we're suckers for sparkling.
6. Don't forget dessert.
I usually buy a cheesecake or a torte cake to finish off our meal. It satisfies my sweet tooth and tastes excellent with the last bit of my champagne.
7. Clean the kitchen together.
Admittedly, you may have a few extra dishes, but in my opinion, it is entirely worth it. We clean the kitchen together so that we can cuddle on the couch sooner.
